A question about Family Home declarations - some purchasers get push back from 3rd party solicitors refusing to execute the FHD as they are not their primary solicitor and have advised clients to go to their purchasing solicitor - is this usual for practising solicitors?

Yes, the swearing of a statutory declaration is not a client/matter specific event. If clients present with identification (which they are happy to accept, it is key that the clients have valid identification) and the declaration, there is no reason why a solicitor would not swear the document. Telling them to go back to their acting solicitor is quite incorrect as the acting solicitors for the purchase are the very people who cannot swear the declarations.
