A buyer is purchasing a property and trying to get a loan offer with a bank, but was previously married - now divorced (2014), the buyer has no original documents apart from a scan of their divorce decree issued by the High court of another country. The Bank has asked the buyer's solicitors to advise whether the divorce is recognised in Ireland to issue the loan offer. How would someone know if a divorce from another country can be recognised in Ireland?
Edited
Foreign divorces are recognised in Ireland if both spouses were domiciled residents in that jurisdiction of the court granting the divorce at the date of the beginning of the proceedings. An application must be made to the Irish courts submitting all necessary documentation including the divorce decree and evidence of domicile to ensure compliance with Irish legal requirements.
